Going Home…

After one whole year away from all the beautiful people I love dearly and have MISSED EVERY SINGLE DAY(like you wouldn’t even understand) I simply had to go home.

My life would of course be much easier if all of my friends and family were located in the same city, but like most families, they are strewn out around the United States.

It’s always going to be challenging to see all of the folks that I would like to when I visit. It’s simply not possible. I will also miss weddings, births, and killer dinner parties whilst I’m abroad.

This is just a sad reality of my spectacularly fun new life. ;(

We flew into Cleveland first because that’s where a big chunk of my family live.

My beautiful Aunts did their best to make our stay the most relaxing and fun few days imaginable…

Sugary sweet cherries from Nashville Farmers Market

I was 25 years old before I ever tasted real cherries. Seriously. This is a true story.
Most of the blame for this can be placed upon my beloved older brother Dan who used to hold me down in a headlock and shove his dirty basketball socks into my face while chanting “It’s okay they taste like cherries.”

Because of that I always avoided cherries.
Well, okay not entirely because of that.
Actually that’s not the reason at all. (but it is a good childhood story, no?)
The REAL reason I avoided cherries for so many years was because I never knew that they really tasted like sweet syrupy little plums.
I have in fact tasted Maraschino cherries in various fruit cocktails and other recipes since I was little and found them utterly revolting. That fake almond sugar flavor and the fact that they are bleached and soaked in sulfur dioxide is horrifying.
Add the noxious taste of cherry flavored cough-syrup to the mix and you can see how my aversion to cherries took root.

Last Summer I took a trip to California, stopped at a cherry orchard, and bought a pound of fresh cherries.
Guess what!?
They DO NOT taste like cough syrup! They taste like fresh juicy amazing cherries!!
Since then, if I see cherries at the Farmer’s Market they come home with me and I adore them!
This photo is from such an occasion (yesterday!)

Spring Strawberries

I went to the Nashville Farmers market the other day with my best girl KT, and the selection of fresh fruits & veggies was simply outrageous! I just sort of froze up and wandered around aimlessly in a haze only buying a few things and eventually stumbling completely overwhelmed back to the car..
After sleeping on it, I realized that I was a huge idiot to have no snagged any of the gorgeous ripe strawberries I saw and went back to remedy my mistake ASAP.
These are the best I’ve had in years. So sweet you’d think they’d been dipped in honey before you taste them..
I love living in the South!
Check out the Farmer’s Market when you get a chance and you can thank me later!
