Let me tell you of the delights that I experienced on my most recent and desperately needed trip out West to visit my best friend in the entire Universe Abigail!!!
My next few posts will be Arizona themed so get ready for some yummy.
Let’s start with this awesome little drink I stumbled upon in Sedona.
Mamma Chia.
I had never heard of Chia seeds before, but apparently they are amazing.
Here is a link to a more in depth article about the benefits of Chia seeds http://www.living-foods.com/articles/chia.html
Basically, they are a superfood, containing tons of fiber, more omega-3′s than salmon, and help in weight-loss, endurance, you name it…
But I had no idea that they are so fun to drink.
Put a few tablespoons of these suckers in juice or tea and after a couple of hours they bloom like little gelatin balls and create a seriously fun drinking sensation in your mouth.
Sort of like tapioca pearls, but more like itty bitty jell-o nubs.
I drank several different flavors of Mamma Chia while I was in Arizona, and totally fell in love with the awesome Chia seed, but upon my return home to Nashville, I was disheartened to find out that you can’t find the drinks anywhere to the East of Texas.
Bummer.
Well, I have a secret. You can make it yourself.
My favorite vessel thus far has been Adina’s Holistic Elixirs. Blackberry Hibiscus. FTW.
You can visit them here to see where they are sold, varieties of flavors, etc.
It does take patience to mix it yourself and wait for it to blossom into jelly blobs, but into I can buy it ready-made, it will have to do!
I have been in touch with the nice people over at Mamma Chia and they informed me that they are doing their best to expand their reach. Hopefully you’ll be able to find it at your neighborhood Whole Foods or Trader Joes!
Until then, you can stalk their progress along with me!
