REVIEW: Tasti D Lite Frozen Yogurt Nashville

I had high hopes for this place. I have been waiting to check Tast D Lite out for awhile.
Watching with anticipation as the new Nashville location was getting ready to open.
Stalking the Tasti D Lite webpage relentlessly to check the progress.
And then, I kind of just got busy with my own life and forgot about it.
Until this past week end!
Finally!

Okay. So I was under the impression that there were tons of flavors to choose from, but when I arrived at Tasti D lite, I found out that there are actually only 6 flavors of the day and if I wanted any of the other flavors I’d have to pay extra for a custom blend.
Which is fine with me (albeit pricey).
I cheerfully sampled all six of the flavors of the day.

The French Vanilla tasted like Vanilla, the Dutch Chocolate tasted like the aftertaste of Chocolate, the Marzipan was disgusting to me personally, (but I loathe Marzipan) the Pecan Praline Fudge just tasted like burnt caramel chocolate powder confusion, the Red Velvet Cake tasted like cherry syrup, and the Coconut Cookie was pretty good, but not awesome.
Dang it!
So, feeling a bit disappointed, I went with the custom blend Cheesecake flavor with Oreos.
(I get this all the time at Krave and it is a true winner there)

The only problem I had with the way this tasted was that it just tasted like Vanilla.
Not even a hint of Cheesecake flavor.
Certainly nowhere near the cheesecake goodness they have at Krave.

I wonder what the problem was…
Did she mix in too little of the flavoring? Is that just what it tastes like? Am I just spoiled by the deliciousness that is Krave’s Cheesecake flavor?

I know one thing, the employee that assisted me seemed extremely nervous, let me know that she had just started working at Tasti D Lite, and had a hell of a time adding toppings after she overfilled the cup with frozen yogurt.
Let’s just say she got as many Oreos onto the yogurt as she did onto the counter and herself…
If she hadn’t been so green and timid I would have let her know that my yogurt in no way reflected any cheesecake taste whatsover, but the vanilla tasted okay so I just paid and ate it.
(with Oreos falling off all over the table)
The consistency was a nice balance of creamy & icey.
And the place was downright adorable.

The decor was cute and modern in the way that most frozen yogurt places I have visited seem to be. Quirky little chairs and funky lanterns. Lots of swirls and stripes.

I will be back of course, because that’s what I do.
I give places second chances. Especially since every day the flavors are different (and hopefully better!)
And also because one of my friends just scored a new job there.
But I freakin hope they realize they need to leave space for toppings and work out their blended flavors so that they actually represent the flavors they are supposed to.
Until then, I’m going to satisfy my sweet tooth at Krave.

Dinner at Cheesecake Factory

I like the Cheesecake Factory despite the Horrifyingly 80′s neon airbrushing ALL OVER THE CEILING clashing with the gorgeous metal fixtures, Elegant Marble pillars, and Dark blown glass chandeliers….(the person who made that decision should be fired and maybe flogged……with cheesecake!)
Oh and the fact that the waiters are all robots programmed to be OBSESSED with the place they work.
Or the annoying diamond ring ads on the back of every page of the menu.
Or that ordering a burrito means ordering a burrito that could feed ALL of Mexico City…
Besides all of that, the food is pretty good, beyond plentiful, consistent, and the cheesecake is just ridiculous.
On my recent visit to assist in the celebration of my friend Corey’s birthday, I ordered the Tex Mex Egg Rolls? (I think so….I’m pretty sure that’s what they were called, but with the 4,000 items on their menu who can be sure!?)
Photobucket
You’d think that this is a pretty standard fried appetizer you can get at Chili’s or TGI Fridays, but this was better, and I’m a pretty good judge because I love them a lot and I’ve had both. They were crunchier, flakier, stuffed with more veggies, and the sauce was creamier and had more of an avocado taste than the other two places’ Southwestern inspired Egg Rolls.

My friend ordered the Flat Iron steak (which I had a bite of and was actually very good)
Photobucket
The steak came with “steak butter” which made me laugh for some reason.
It also came with a big basket of fries and onion rings which, although looked quite delicious, we were both too full to even try them…..maybe it was all that meaty butter…
Photobucket
We also needed to save room for all the cheesecake that was about to get eaten.

Birthday boy got the Oreo Cheesecake and a very special Birthday song..
And I got the best cheesecake flavor they have:

White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle.
Swweeettt Jeeesssuusss!
Try it out for yourself. It’s the Shizzle.

Pied Piper Lunch

I FINALLY got my East Nashville Lovin’ ass over to Pied Piper Eatery this afternoon with my boy to try out some lunch fare.
I wasn’t too terribly hungry so I went with a simple Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken and a cup of the Soup Du Jour “Cheddar Broccoli.”
Photobucket
The salad dressing was begging for more zing! Garlic!! Caesar dressing must have garlic! It was okaaayyyy. But it was lacking salt.
Photobucket
The soup on the other hand, was VERY thick and EXTREMELY salty. I actually said “FUCK” very loudly after initially tasting it and then laughed out loud. I don’t know what happened with the creation of this soup….but it was NOT soup. It was salty broccoli cheese fondue at best.
SALTY HELL SOUP.

Ehh. Whatever.
Maybe I’ll give it another shot since I love my neighborhood so much.

School takes up too much of my time and Bread & Company is too expensive..

I know.
It’s been weeks.
WEEKS since I last updated.
But alas, another school semester has begun for Gimmeyummy so you’ll just have to be patient and forgiving when there are more blog hiatus situations going down ……until December…and then blog overload begins!
So onto the food shall we?!
I’m going to start by saying that Bread & Company is reasonably delicious but too fucking expensive.
If you aren’t currently residing in Nashville then you may not know about Bread & Company as it is local.
Check it out here:http://www.breadandcompany.com/
Their Award Winning Tarragon Chicken salad sandwich is 8 bucks and a bowl of tomato Basil Soup is 6 bucks…add a drink and tax and you are nearing 20 bucks for a quick bakery/deli lunch.
I dunno, maybe that’s nothing to most people..
But the “Award Winning Tarragon Chicken Salad Sandwich” did not stand out as winning any awards except maybe the “Boring Award.”Photobucket
Does this look like an award winning sandwich to you?
Because it sure didn’t taste that way to me.
Where are the veggies?? The flavor!? The SOMETHING!?
Are they just giving out awards for anything these days?
Jesus Christ.
Photobucket
The Tomato Basil Soup on the other hand is really good and perfect for dipping your very bland chicken salad sammy into, in order to bring it back to life.

The sweet tea is also so insanely sugary at Bread & Company. So much so that I had to do about a 1/4 sweet tea ratio and a 3/4 unsweetened tea in my To-go cup to achieve a normal sweet tea sugar level.
I’m sure you just think I’m being bitchy because I’m a poor college student and have a bunch of homework which has led me to be cranky. Well, that isn’t what’s going on here.
I just think that it’s a bummer to charge that much and have merely a decent sandwich delivered to your kind patrons. Or at least guarantee me that Nicole Kidman is going to be up in there eating her lemon wedges and cappuccino foam looking all ethereal and alien. Oh the joys of living in Nashville!
