REVIEW: Subway!

Despite how much I loathe the cutesy play-on-words spelling, when I go to Subway, I refuse to order anything but the “Veggie Delite.”
The luncheon meat they serve on their sandwiches is not a far cry from tasteless shiny plastic and the microwaved “chicken strips” resemble rubber.
I’m also not a big meat-eater, yet I’m not entirely opposed to eating animals.
But I’m not about to eat meat that doesn’t convince me it once had a face.
Not trying to be a hoity-toity foodie bitch here, I just like to know what I’m eating.
Mystery meat + Me = NOT A FAN.
The veggies at Subway, on the other hand, always look decent. I like their different bread offerings as well and the fact that it is freshly baked in house is a plus.
So yeah, gimme fresh bread, tasty crispy veggies, some mustard, and I’ll eat it.
I’ll eat the pants off of it.

I mean, if your slogan is “EAT FRESH” all of your ingredients should follow suit.

I usually order the “Honey Oat” bread, but the regular “Wheat” is apparently 50 less calories, so from now on that’s going to be my pick. We’ve got lettuce, tomato, cucumber, bell peppers, black olives, lite mayo & yellow mustard on this bad boy. (or good boy?)
Photobucket
I did not eat this entire sandwich, as easy as it would have been for me to do so, because the whole thing is over 500 calories, even with lite mayo and no meat.
Instead I shared it with someone I love and all was right in the universe.
I’m not saying that the meat at Subway is awful. I’m sure it is fresh and fine to consume by the general public.
I personally don’t find it appealing.
But yeah, it’s not AWFUL.
“AWFUL” is a word I reserve to reference the meat at such shining establishments as Jack-in-the-Box and McDonalds.

THE END.

Veggie overload to assist with guacamole infatuation.

I’ve been trying to ween myself off of guacamole and tortilla chips and back onto mostly raw veggies and lean protein, but avocados tastes soooo good to me right now.
And I need magic spicy guacamole land and my splenda-sweet tea while I watch the Bachelorette. I need this.
But lately my love of guac has turned into an obsession and my meals have been based around what I can dip in my guacamole. That and factor in that I’m starting to panic when I get to the bottom of the bowl…..I need a veggie intervention.
The Farmer’s Market trips are helpful with this pursuit.
Spinach salad, 3 different varieties of heirloom tomatoes, broccoli, green and purple bell peppers, and cucumber topped with grilled chicken.
It was fabulous of course and very filling.
Didn’t miss my guac one bit after dinner I dare say.
Variety Jamie, VARIETY.

Malai Kofta

Sunday Indian Buffet at Bombay Palace has become an obsessive ritual in my life. By Saturday morning I am itching for toasty Naan and exotic spices. This past Sunday my dreams came true when they added Malai Kofta to the lineup of tasty buffet items and made my day explode with happiness. Malai Kofta is a traditional gravy dish, with little meatball shaped vegetable & cheese balls and almonds or cashews. It’s really the cat’s fucking pajamas.
They also had a Cauliflower dish that made me convulse with joy and a bright spicy paneer offering that reinforced how wonderful it is to be alive.
God I love Bombay Palace.

REVIEW: Archer Farms Salsa & Tortilla chips & sweet revenge

As previously noted with much disappointment, my dear, sweet (perpetually starving) pup, “Nina” decided to taste test 80% of my delicious breakfast the other morning and I have been trying to come up with a way to get back at her ever since. Revenge seeking on a dog is not easy, but I got lucky.

I am actively trying to test out as many of the Target Brand “Archer Farms” offerings as possible since falling in love with their amazing trail mixes & dried fruits recently….

It has been ballsweat hot outside recently which makes me crave refreshing snacks..
SO I BOUGHT SOME CHIPS & SALSA!!
Mango Peach (which is apparently organic!?)

AND
Corn, Black Bean, and Roasted Red Pepper

I realized that my doggies were watching me intently (especially Nina) as I took pictures of the salsa jars and decided that I might have a little fun with the salsa-on-chip shots.

Let’s start with the Mango Peach salsa:

Please note the gorgeous chunks of fruit sparkling on the crunchy multigrain tortilla chip.
And then also note Nina’s much-tortured “want!” doggie expression as she wishes upon sweet velvet wish that I will drop my treasure directly into her mouth!
HA! Not this time Nina Bear!

Okay so onto the Corn, Blackbean, and Roasted Red Pepper salsa:

Pay close attention to the chunky veggies present in this salsa, and then make sure to notice my other curious pup Sake ready to get in on the action!

Other than the super entertaining albeit semi-cruel teasing of my pups, the salsa was ho-hum when it came to living up to the “medium” level of heat the label promised.
Both salsas were flavorful and satisfying, but lacked that extra “yeehaw” that I prefer.
The tortilla chips are delicious and crunchy and have the perfect level of saltiness.
(which really made the Mango Peach Salsa stand out!)

Despite the lack of piss-your-pants-spice, I will probably get these flavors again because I was pretty impressed with the freshness of the taste and the chunky action.

Cheesy Cheddar Eggs and Tzatziki Sauce with Toast!

I know it has been a while since I updated you with deliciousness and for that I must apologize!
If it makes you feel any better, about 3 seconds after I snapped this picture and turned around to return to the kitchen to grab my milk, my lovely dog Nina helped herself to my defenseless breakfast leaving very little to ooohh and ahhhhhh over. It was a sad, sad morning.

Taco Porn.

I wish I could live on tacos alone. I adore authentic tacos so very much and I wish I could promise forever to them. My complete inability to make this a feasible reality stems from my intense love for so many different types of food. I just couldn’t commit to tacos. I’d WANT to! I’d really really make the effort. But in the end, tacos wouldn’t be enough to satiate my lust for food. I would slip, and end up cheating on tacos with sushi or green curry. It would get messy. Tacos would feel betrayed, and I’d feel like a big jerkface. Trust me.
Now let’s look at some recently ravished tacos!

Let’s begin with the always delightful fish tacos from Mas Tacos!
Jesus they were tasty…and always are…
Photobucket
This is my personal favorite, the Vegetarian option…..quinoa and potato with avocado!!
Dang that’s sexy food!
Photobucket
C’MON! Just look at that bright wet cilantro leaf taunting you!Ohhhh and the Watermelon agua fresca was just to die for and refreshing!

Okay! Next!
These are the lunch fish tacos from Sambuca Restaurant Nashville
(http://www.sambucarestaurant.com/)
These puppies are another huge WIN in my book for local taco success. These fish tacos are gigantic and contain some of the most satisfying mixtures of textures I have ever experienced in a taco. Super crunchy fried tilapia with creamy avocado, gooey cheese, firm jasmine rice, black beans and crisp cabbage!

Give me tacos or give me death!
